ANNUAL CONDITION INSPECTION

Viking Engine Annual Inspection

o   Change engine oil and filter if dirty (send sample to Blackstone Labs for testing and results to Viking for analysis) Should be changed every 25-50 hours

o   Change gearbox oil if dirty (send sample as above) Should be changed every 25 hours.

o   Inspect gearbox coupling and related parts

o   Check all gearbox and engine bolt torque

o   Check propeller bolt torque and general propeller/spinner condition

o   Check idler pulley, alternator and coolant pump while replacing accessory belt (carefully inspect main alternator cable lug)

o   Replace fuel system pre-filters every year or every 200 hours whichever comes first

o   Check fuel system for leaks, chaffing, loose clamps, deteriorating hoses and overall general condition

o   Verify fuel flow at engine fuel quick disconnect to be approximately 50-60 oz. per minute (single pump)

o   Compression test with automotive tester (160-210 psi, see Youtube for suggestions)

o   Inspect engine mount and rubber dampers for cracks, bolt torque and engine alignment

o   Check throttle(s) for defects/travel

o   Service K&N air filter with service kit

o   Exhaust for cracks and improper attachment

o   All systems for improper installation, poor general condition, defects and insecure attachment

o   Cowling for cracks, chaffing and defects

o   Verify that engine related wiring is secure, no chaffing and that only engine related circuitry is on the positive and negative ENGINE busses

o   Verify engine operation: should start on two batteries, should run on either battery by itself or on the alternator without any batteries

o   Check Valve Clearances (As needed or yearly)

o   Ensure 6mm gearbox front cover bolts – 150 in. lbs & 1/2 in. gearbox attach bolts are 70 ft. lbs. if it has a nut and 55 ft. lbs. if threaded into the engine.

o Valve Lash Check Yearly, or every 100 hours, adjust if needed

o Fuel Filter change yearly or every 200 hours, whichever comes first.

o Torsion Damper, change every five years

o Alternator Belt, change every 2 years (be extremely careful not to chip the coolant pump pulley when replacing the belt on the 195 Turbo engine)

o   Please note this is a BASELINE – please look over any and all parts of your engine and airframe. Refer to website to see any suggested changes and add-ons.

Be sure to complete an oil analysis every year. It is AMAZING when an engine can prove to the world that the wear and tear is 50% lower than the norm. Hopefully all engine providers will post these reports. “Attached is the oil report on my engine …
